Temagami

Last week we went to Temagami for a trip, and this is the first time we meet the outbound students. Temagami is in northern Ontario, so it took us a long time to get there, but it is a good opportunity to get to know each other more. On the bus, everyone had to introduce himself/herself, and I realized most of the outbound students want to go to Japan, Australia, and France for the exchange.

The first day and the second day we were learning what a “team” is, and how to work as a team. We learned “there is no I in the team,” we had to take care of each other because we are a “team.” I really learned a lot. The third day, I think is the most important day. We were going to put in use the things we learned from the first day and the second day. Also, everyone had their job to do; there were navigators, student leaders, planners, and fire builders. We had a progress to achieve. There were ten signs we had to find. We were snowshoeing on the lake to find the signs.

At first we found the first five sighs very fast, but after we found the fifth sigh we couldn’t find the “six.” And we became tired and hungry, so the leaders decided to have lunch first. When we had our lunch, everyone discussed that maybe there was no “six” because the navigators all thought we were on the right direction. After the discussion, we decided to skip the “six,” to find to next sigh. And we had to move quickly because we spent too much time on the “six.” If we didn’t move fast, when the sun goes down, the sky gets darker, it would get colder and it’s easy to get lost. Finally, we found the last sigh before sunset and walked back to the lodge. Before we found the last sigh, I thought I could finish this progress because my feet were very sour but I didn’t want to give up, I wanted to complete this progress with my teammates. And also, our leaders encouraged everyone even they were tired as anyone else so I couldn’t give up at this time. When we found the last sigh, we were all very excited about that we finally finished the mission.

I really learned a lot during this trip, and we all very enjoyed this trip. By the way, we also learned that “two heads are better than one.” The meaning in Chinese is “三個臭皮匠,勝過一個諸葛亮.” This was the first trip I’ve ever had, and I really appreciate everyone who gives me this opportunity to be the exchange student and to have such a good experience. THANK YOU~~!!!
