Speech to District 3870 Conference

April 2003

Governor RUBEN A. VEGAFRIA, Past Governors, DGE, Guests and my dear Partners in Service 2002~2003.

Before my evaluation I must say “WELCOME TO Brisbane, Australia RI Convention 2003!”

On behalf of President Bhichai Rattakul, I wish to invite cordially and welcome all participants to this very important meeting in this Rotary year. Your taking the time to be a part of this RI Convention is greatly appreciated. Let’s come to Brisbane, Queensland, to celebrate Australia’s legacy of service and hospitality and the fruition of the many Rotary projects and endeavors throughout the Rotary year 2002-03.

Our RI conventions offer Rotarians the opportunity to experience the full measure of Rotary internationality and fellowship, and Brisbane promises to be one of the best convention venues ever. Queensland’s capital is a vibrant city with friendly people, good food, and lots of activities for every interest, really!

So join in the fun together, in warm fellowship, in a sunny clime. On behalf of President Bhichai Rattakul, I wish to invite all of you once more.

Let’s Getting to the Convention and Say “g’day” to the opportunity of a lifetime in beautiful Brisbane.

1990~91 RI President Paulo V.C. Costa said:

 “Rotary has no hands of it‘s own. Rotary‘s hands are our hands.”

The keyhole design in our gear wheel on the Rotary emblem symbolizes Rotary in motion, its power source.

Former RI President Cadman said ‘You are the Key’. We must use Commitment and Dedication as the key to ‘activate this keyway’ in the center of our emblem and open the door to the world of Rotary; as Commitment and Dedication are the driving forces of the Rotary movement.

As more and more Rotarians commit to our cause, more Rotary force will result. This long term commitment and dedication will shape the future direction of the Rotary wheel and its movement shall never cease.  So let’s see how your district uses Commitment and Dedication as the key to activate this keyway in this rotary year.

I like wine, especially red wine.

My favorite red wine is Bordeaux from France.

The quality of Bordeaux red wine is depends on 4 elements, “vintage, AOC, age and class”.

We can also use these 4 elements to judge a district.

1.   Vintage –

      2003 is a good year for a RI President from the east and an outstanding DG Ruben.  So, it’s a good vintage for this district.

2.   AOC ( it means appellation origin control)–

       District 3870 is a wonderful origin. It located in south Philippines, with warm sunshine and warm friendship. This is a great place, so it is a great AOC.

3.   Age –

      This district is 19 years old. It’s a mature age which enough for us to know how to share our wisdom, how to share our wealth, how to share our power and how to share our enterprise.

4.   Class –

      The class for red wine is rated as, “good, very good, excellent and outstanding”.

       In the past few days, this District has impressed me very much. Now on behalf of President Bhichai Rattakul to evaluate this District, from above many viewpoints .

       I never think about “Good”, and “Very Good” isn’t suitable.  When I would like to say that “excellent” are not enough for me to describe this fantastic district.

      Do you think which word would be the perfect word for this successful District?

      My answer is “Outstanding”.

      Except Your District has those fantastic special programs & it is a outstanding District, Your District has a very humble, distinguished and honorable Aid PDG Beng who makes our visit to your district a very pleasant and memorable experience.
