What The Rotary Foundation means to me now and for the future

扶輪基金現在與未來對我有什麼意義

I recall the first time I heard the words of Arch Klumpf, quoted in a speech by a district governor, calling for establishment of a foundation “for doing good in the world.” I wonder if Arch knew what he was starting. As M.A.T. Caparas said, “Rotary Brings Hope.”  Bringing hope is exactly what The Rotary Foundation does. It is the soul of our international service efforts.

我憶起當第一次聽到一位地區總監引用了Arch Klumpf的話，需要成立一個〝全世界行善〞的基金會。我懷疑Arch是否知道是他開始的。正如M.A.T. Caparas所說，〝扶輪帶來希望。〞而帶來希望完全是扶輪基金會做了什麼。這是我們國際服務努力的靈魂。

John is a Certified Public Accountant and was employed at a large international CPA firm and a small local firm before opening his own practice in 1979.

      約翰在1979年自己於當地開業的小公司之前是大型國際會計師公司的一位合格會計師。

A Rotarian since 1981, John is a member of the Rotary club of Edmonds Daybreakers. He served as club president of the Rotary club of North Seattle in 1987-88 and served three terms as his clubs Foundation Chair.

      自1981年成為扶輪社員，約翰是Edmonds Daybreakers扶輪社社員，於1987-88年擔任扶輪社社長並擔任了他的扶輪社三年任期扶輪基金主委。

John has given over 200 club presentations on the Rotary Foundation and has been a speaker at many district Rotary Foundation events from California to Alaska. He was the Rotary Foundation instructor at the Southern California and Nevada PETS in 2002. He has also served as a discussion leader at the Zones 23 and 24 GETS.

John represented District 5030 at the 1998 Council on Legislation in New Delhi, India, and also at the 2001 Council in Chicago. He has served on numerous zone and international committees for Rotary International. He has served on several zone institute committees, including as vice chair of the 2000 Institute.  John was Permanent Fund National Advisor in 1999-2001.

Together with his wife, Paula, John has hosted several Group Study Exchange members and they have been host counselors for two Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholars.

John is a Major Donor to the Rotary Foundation, and a Benefactor and Charter Member of the Bequest Society.
