根除小兒痲痺募款運動接近大功告成

受到各扶綸社及地區以很有創意及決心的方式來推動的根除小兒痲痺募款總計8000萬美元，來彌補經費的短缺，以促成全世界根除小兒痲痺，自發起以來，全世界扶輪社員莫不傾全力以赴。

The polio eradication fundraising campaign (PEFC) that clubs and districts have waged with ingenuity and determination is set to end on 30 June. Aimed at raising US$80 million in cash and commitments to bridge a funding shortfall in the effort to make the world polio-free, the yearlong campaign has benefited from the resourcefulness and dedication of Rotarians worldwide.

因為財務需求目前最大，PEFC主任，國際扶輪前理事羅伯特．史考特(Robert Scott)鼓勵扶輪社員及扶輪社儘快寄來他們的捐款—是全部或部份捐款—以使根除小兒痲痺活動馬上有更多的經費可使用。

Because the financial need is greatest now, Past RI Director Robert Scott, PEFC director, encourages Rotarians and clubs to send in their contributions - in whole or in part - soon to allow more funds to be immediately available for polio eradication activities.

"The joy of being part of a National Immunization Day is always tempered by the sight of other children with braces and crutches and the 'sand crawlers' hovering in the background - the children for whom we are too late," Scott says. "This campaign is all about being in time for the millions for whom we are not too late. Please ensure by personal example, by vigorous fundraising, that we Rotarians 'Fulfill Our Promise: Eradicate Polio.'"

對該運動全部的現金、地區指定用途基金、及扶輪社承諾捐獻金額，將於6月3日在澳大利亞布理斯班的國際扶輪年會宣佈，以慶祝根除小兒痲痺募款運動的大功告成。

The total contributions to the campaign in cash, District Designated Funds, and club commitments will be announced at the RI Convention in Brisbane, Australia, on 3 June, as part of a celebration to mark the success of the PEFC.

捐獻者必須在2005年6月30日前結清今年承諾的捐獻。為了達成這項效果，正式負責協調PEFC活動的委員會將繼續運作2年，以追蹤各項承諾捐獻的實現情況。

Donors will have until 30 June 2005 to complete commitments and pledges made this year. To that effect, the official committees that have been coordinating PEFC activities will remain in place for two more years to follow up on commitments.

The PolioPlus Partners program, suspended for a year to allow Rotarians to focus on the campaign, will be relaunched on 1 July 2003 with the issue of an open projects list. Designed to provide clubs and districts with an opportunity to make a direct impact on eradication efforts, the program supports projects listed by Rotarians in polio eradication priority countries.
