As we observe Foundation Month at the Secretariat, one of our top priorities is providing effective support for Fulfilling Our Promise: Eradicate Polio, the US$80 million polio eradication fundraising campaign (PEFC).
在這項運動於2002年國際講習會中宣佈之前，本處的辦事員便已經開始收集背景資料，協助扶輪高階領導人籌劃。我們十分仰賴前秘書長皮格曼(Herb Pigman)的專業知識，他曾於1980年代協助規劃大為成功的募款運動。
When this campaign was announced at the 2002 International Assembly, staff had already begun to assemble background material to assist Rotary senior leaders in their planning. We drew heavily on the expertise of Past General Secretary Herb Pigman, who helped to design the enormously successful campaign in the 1980s.
雖然我們有先前的經驗作為指南，可是規劃策略的時間卻大幅減少。第一次運動的規劃過程花了18個月，而這一次的時間不到三分之一。所幸，義務協助的領導人欣然擔任該運動的重要職位，並開始與辦事員合作，使事情快速推展。
Although we had the experience of that earlier effort to guide us, there was far less time to strategize. The planning process for the first campaign took 18 months, while this one was developed in less than a third of that time. Fortunately, volunteer leaders readily accepted key roles in the campaign and began working with staff to put things in motion quickly.
各階層的團隊合作，是這項運動進展不可或缺的元素。辦事員一起努力製作及翻譯資料，供擔任募款活動義工的扶輪社員分發。我們也縮作了一支錄影帶，目前正在各扶輪社播放，為了獲得更多支持，這項募款運動收編2002-03年度暫時中止的根除小兒痲痺等疾病夥伴計劃的人力，並向其他領域調借辦事員，以減少新的人事支出，節省經費。
Teamwork at all levels has been an essential element of the campaign's development and progress. Staff worked together to produce and translate printed materials for distribution by Rotarians serving as campaign volunteers. We also produced a video that is being shown to all clubs. To gain additional support, the campaign enlisted staff from the PolioPlus Partners program, which has been suspended during 2002-03, and "borrowed" staff from other areas, thus limiting the need to create new positions and expand budgets.
雖然這項運動要達成目標，義工及辦事員仍面臨許多挑選，可是根除小兒痲痺病毒的迫切性，卻是激勵我們所有人前進的最大動力。
While volunteers and staff still face many challenges in reaching the campaign goal, the urgency of eradicating the poliovirus serves as a powerful motivating force for all of us.
