Two groups establish Donor Advised Funds

5840地區成為第一個向扶輪基金會成立捐獻者顧問基金(DAF)的團體。這筆32萬美元的捐獻者顧問基金是在2002年6月美國德州科維爾(Kerrville)舉辦的5840地區年會上正式宣布成立，也是表示對當地及全球扶輪社員提供社區服務的敬意。

District 5840 became the first group to establish a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) with The Rotary Foundation. The Donor Advised Fund in the amount US$320,000 was officially announced in June 2002 at the District 5840 Conference in Kerrville, Texas, USA, as a tribute to the community service provided by Rotarians locally and around the world.

之後不久，前國際扶輪社長、現任視力保健特別工作小組主委戴甫靈(Frank J. Devlyn)捐贈第一筆基金，向扶輪基金會成立一個視力保健團體捐獻者顧問基金。此基金將用於資助扶輪基金會與全球的視力保健計劃。

Soon afterward, a group DAF for avoidable blindness was established with the Foundation with an initial contribution from Past RI President Frank J. Devlyn, chairman of the Avoidable Blindness Task Force. The fund will be used to support the Foundation and avoidable blindness projects around the world.

Introduced in April 2002 as an innovative giving vehicle, The Rotary Foundation Donor Advised Fund provides U.S. Rotarians with the opportunity to create a separate investment or savings account earmarked exclusively for charitable giving to the Foundation and other approved charitable organizations, thereby simplifying and streamlining their charitable giving.

2003-04年度地區總監當選人吉姆•伯格(Jim Berg)表示，5840地區是在收到第92屆聖安東尼奧國際扶輪年會的盈餘後成立其團體DAF；而伯格正是該年會地主籌委會主委。

District 5840 set up its group DAF after receiving the surplus of the 92nd RI Convention in San Antonio, according to Jim Berg, district governor-elect for 2003-04, who served as chairman of the Host Organization Committee of the convention.

透過專業資產管理，提供給DAF的捐獻金額在用作獎助金前即可增值，如此便有機會從事更多慈善捐獻，產生超出原始捐獻金額的影響力。每個團體DAF每年將提出基金總額的1%贈予扶輪基金會的年度計劃基金。

With professional asset management, the value of contributions made to a DAF can appreciate before grants are distributed, and a group may have the opportunity to give more to charity and make an impact that goes beyond the value of the funds originally contributed. One percent of the value of each group DAF is granted to the Foundation's Annual Programs Fund each year.
