2001~02年度國際扶輪 副社長黃其光 RIVP Gary, 2001~02 Welcome Address (2003 Singapore Institute) |
|
Dear R.I. President-elect Glenn & Mary Estess, RIPP Richard &
Cherie King, RIPP Bhichai Rattakul, all Current, Past and Future R.I. Officers,
Fellow Rotarians, Ladies & Gentlemen:
As Convenor of this 2003 Singapore Rotary Institute, I have the high honor and
great pleasure to welcome all of you to this wonderful city of Singapore. Some
of you were here for the 1999 R.I. Convention, “welcome back !” Many of you have
come here this time from a great distance. According to Confucius, “having
friends came from far away” is one of pure joys in life. Your presence here is
indeed very much appreciated, and I trust that your full participation will make
this Singapore Rotary Institute a truly successful and memorable one.
Under the inspiring leadership of our President Jonathan Majiyagbe, our Rotary
theme this year is to “Lend a Hand”. We, the Rotarians, are sensitive to all the
social needs around us. Critical help is needed in many areas, as President
Jonathan has reminded us, such to combat poverty, illiteracy and disease, in
addition to the natural disasters. Through our many Rotarians service projects,
our 1.2 million fellow Rotarians can and indeed do make significant
contributions in this world. How to “Lend a Hand” with a meaningful impact with
great efficiency and effectiveness becomes our challenge. The Rotary Institute
provides us with a wonderful opportunity for timely reassessment of our goal and
aspirations, our strategical planning, and the refocusing and the rededication
of our efforts and commitments in our global outreaches and services, besides
the perennial issue of membership growth and development.
On behalf of all the Rotarians here for this Institute, I would like to thank
most heartily the members of the organizing Committee and its Chairman PDG Fong
Hoe Beng for their extraordinary efforts in making all the arrangements for this
Institute. I am sure that the 2003 Singapore Rotary Institute will have a very
fruitful outcome.
Chairman PDG Fong Hoe Beng and his committee members have been working hard to
arrange everything for you, including Instant Interpretation, entertainment, and
music during the Institute. Of course, some performers are our own Rotarians who
flown in from Manila and Taiwan, to add the highlight of this event.
Apart from fine fellowship, the Institute is a venue to learn
more about Rotary and in addition, to listen to the speech of our RIPE Glenn
Estess, a most important leader in the history of Rotary. We are fortunate that
he is with us here today and we will be hearing from him later. Fellow
Rotarians, please joint me to give Glenn and Mary another warmest welcome !
Please do not forget to meet and talk to our RI Staff support in persons of Miss
Ladda Tammy Duckworth from Evanston and Mr. James L. Robinson the Representative

assist you.
