Australians are receivers of more funded benefits from the Rotary Foundation than the amount they contribute.

多年以前試圖改進此一情勢於是介紹一種宣導「百夫長會員Centurion Member」的概念。扶輪社員只要承諾他們每年能捐獻100澳元就能成為位「百夫長」。此一計劃在許多地區不斷獲得接受。它是由地區來加以管理的。也可用來抵稅。這是澳洲式的「每位扶輪社員，每年（EREY計畫）」而非美金100元。每位「百夫長」給一個徽章和一張證書以宣導對扶輪基金的年度捐獻。

In an attempt to improve this situation some years ago a concept was introduced of promoting the Centurion Member. Rotarians become Centurions by committing themselves to a personal contribution of 100 Australian dollars per year as long as they are able to do so. This program has steadily gained acceptance in many Districts. It is administered by District. Tax deductibility is also available. It is an Australian way of Every Rotarian Every Year but 100 Australian dollars rather than 100 US dollars. Every Centurion is given a badge and a certificate to promote the program of annual giving to The Rotary Foundation.

Decades ago Australia fell into a culture of Paul Harris Fellow recognition as a club funded award for meritorious service. If a Rotarian makes a donation of 1000 US dollars and becomes a Paul Harris Fellow many in Australia feel it diminishes the recognition of the Paul Harris Fellow that was “awarded” as they have come to know it. Now that EREY has been introduced confusion is significant as we are asking Rotarians to donate approximately 140 Australian dollars per year as sustaining members and 100 Australian dollars for Centurion membership and then there is the Paul Harris Fellow recognition made when clubs fund them.

The Australian Rotary scene has a lot of competition for the Rotary dollar, unlike much of the world. We have the Australian Rotary Health Research Fund (ARHRF) raising about 1.5 million dollars annually, plus Reaching Out for Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC) and Rotary Australian World Community Service (RAWCS) each receiving over half a million dollars annually. Add to this many lesser, but significant Rotary programs, which are often built into each Governors annual goal.

In most clubs of my own district the ROTARY RULE is 50% to ARHRF & 50%
to TRF. When ROMAC & RAWCS are involved the cakes becomes smaller, and so the dilution continues.

So EREY has been a real challenge of awareness of TRF in the shadow of the HOME GROWN products!!!

This is the environment I operate in with well over 800 Clubs across an area 2/3 the size of USA. A region where bushfires can devastate a community and drought is in its 4^th year curtailing proud practical Rotarian families. I am proud to say that together with my good friend John Reddish, Foundation staff member Terry Davies and a wonderful group of Governors and District Foundation Chairman we are making progress at different rates in different districts and are confident that in the coming years EREY will actually help unravel the confusion.

The most successful Districts are those where the Governor and or the District Foundation Chairman are visibly passionate about The Rotary Foundation. One District is 9600 which includes parts of Brisbane as well as all Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Russ O’Malley puts it this way …

“On one hand we are asking Rotarians to give in increasing amounts to TRF while on the other hand, TRF is a mystery to most Rotarians in the Clubs. Why would they give to something they don’t understand? If they were knowledgeable and aware of what TRF is and what it does, I have absolutely no doubt they would give. This is the challenge I saw coming in as Chairman.”

優先的是要增加對扶輪基金會的瞭解和扶輪基金會是什麼和它在做什麼的認知。

The Priority is to increase the level of awareness and knowledge of what TRF is and what it does.

Russ has gone about meeting the challenge by Promotion at every opportunity as “Our Rotary Charity” rather than ‘The Rotary Foundation’

“Promotion from ‘the heart’ rather than with ‘top of head’ figures.All too often we make TRF sound so complex and in some cases, so boring.

Simple explanations and use of images and word pictures conveyed with enthusiasm and passion about how ‘Our Charity’ is meeting the needs around the world.

District Monthly Newsletter – “Our Foundation in Focus” – is emailed to all Club Presidents and Secretaries each month. The majority on-forward the Newsletter to their Club members by email. Some have hard copies run off and available at Club meetings. It is also posted on the District web site monthly.

Guest Speaking at Clubs

With EREY, Russ covers; What it is, Why this goal, What US$100 will do, the goal in perspective and HOW it can and will be achieved. Encourageing Rotarians to give personally and Clubs to fundraise.

Russ continues “Conducting a District TRF Seminar, Projects Fair and ‘Showcase’ with the theme “Sharing the Passion”. We adopted a different approach (from the heart) and the passion flowed. The Projects Fair resulted in 30 Clubs immediately contributing to group Matching Grants for treated bednets and school desks for PNG. The ‘Showcase’ covered the ‘nitty-gritty’ detail in brochures etc. with colourful posters drawing in attendees.”

In another part of Australia a Governor and District Chairman in Melbourne D.9810 are delighted that they have achieved the 100 US dollar per capita EREY goal, lifting it over 20% from the previous year by explaining and demonstrating the benefits of having additional DDF and DSG. This has given other Governors confidence where the annual Club PHF donation has been traditionally the only donation.

To a lesser degree this same story is unfolding around the region as the benefits begin to be appreciated initially be the District leadership.

More members are making private donations, more detailed questions are being asked and schemes such as a nationally distributed money box for small change collection is underway initiated by PDG Ron Geary.

Progress is also showing after Governors Elect noticed an absence of Club Goal setting and the benefits in some Districts of having Club goals. Many are now offering a set amount of DDF to each Club to use in Matching Grants further emphasising the sharing nature of The Rotary Foundation.

在澳洲中的EREY還未達到曲線圖的頂端但它是一顆正在上昇的星晨。

In Australia EREY is not yet at the top of the chart but it is a rising star.
